5 activities in Tequila to celebrate Independence Day

Mundo Cuervo

If you stroll around the downtown and the main square in Tequila, it’s highly probable that you find a couple of mariachis interpreting the most beautiful songs like “Mexico Lindo y Querido”, and the most delightful aromas of caramelized agave coming from La Rojeña Distillery.

Although these two elements set the perfect mood for an Independence Day celebration, it won’t be completed without the iconic tricolor (green, white, and red) pennants hung all over the town, since the very first days of September. Besides, the classical colonial buildings like Santiago Apóstol parrish, the kiosk, and the tequila counters all around the square create an amazing background for the annual representation of the declaration of independence.

What can I do to celebrate Mexican Independence in Tequila?

Here we share with you 5 activities that will paint your soul and heart with the colors of Mexico next September 16th:

1.  Explore agave-plantations landscape onboard Jose Cuervo Express

2.  Discover how to make tequila the artisanal way

Fabrica la Rojeña

Tequila is the most renowned icon in Mexican culture. No matter what we go through, tequila is always on our table, ready to celebrate or comfort when we need it. Therefore, it’s important to know how it is made from zero, and there’s no better place to do so than La Rojeña Distillery.

This distillery was inaugurated in 1812, only two years after the Independence War broke out. Today it has become the oldest distillery opened in Latin America.

3.- Come into the exciting world of Charreria

The art of riding horses was crucial for development during colonial times and the victory over Spaniards in the Independence War. Charerria is another essential pillar of Mexican identity, which is shown in an exhibition room inside Centro Cultural Juan Beckmann Gallardo.  There, you’ll find lots of videos about horsemen, gorgeous traditional costumes, and a collection of hats, saddles, and spurs.

4.- Scream “Viva México” out loud in Mundo Cuervo

“Mexicanos al Grito de Fiesta” is the annual party thrown by Mundo Cuervo to celebrate the beginning of Mexico as an independent nation. This celebration usually starts with a tour onboard Jose Cuervo Express on the night of September 15th.

Once in Tequila, you’ll become a guest of Hacienda El Centenario, where elegant spaces, evergreen gardens, and some sculptures of Leona Carrington and Diego Bustamante will be waiting for you. This experience includes delicious food, drinks, and a live show with mariachis and folkloric dancers. Of course! After the show, you could set the dancing floor on fire.
