Why is La Rojeña crucial for Mexican heritage?


It's the oldest distillery in Latin America.

Established in 1798 by José Antonio de Cuervo y Valdés, better known as Jose Cuervo, it's one of the most significant tequila-producers for over 261 years. During which it has mastered a secret formula for producing a delicious and traditional 100%-agave tequila.

For instance, Cuervo's private cellar-room was once part of a complex system of underground tunnels that served as shelters for priests during the Cristero Wars. Then, after 1890, these tunnels in la Rojeña were used to keep the barrels with the finest Tequila, which was exclusively consumed by Cuervo's Family. Today, this cellar is open to the public.
